Our 2007 Vacation

Our family is getting older and two of our children are in college and leading lives on their own. Because of this it's getting tougher to take family vacations together. However, this year our oldest son was able to break away and join Cindi, me, and our youngest son for one of the two weeks we spent in the mountains of Colorado.

We flew up to Denver this time and rented a car, then drove 2 hours west to Avon (right outside Veil). We stayed in a luxurious three-story duplex on the arid side of the mountains overlooking the Beaver Creek Ski Resort. The boys had an entire floor to themselves and were in hawg heaven with a theatre room, hot tub, and TV's in every room. Huge king-sized beds and roomy walk-in showers added to the comforts normally not experienced when we vacation in the Rockies.

In addition to the wonderful accomodations, we also spent a lot of time in the mountains and on the streams. We saw lots of wildlife including mule deer, elk, and a bear. We spent numerous days flyfishing the beautiful Gold Medal Waters of the Frying Pan River near Basalt, CO. We also made a trip to the Taylor Canyon area near Gunnison to fish Spring Creek, one of my favorite streams to flyfish. Cindi was a trooper while the boys and I dragged her along with us and thanks to her most of these pictures were taken. The boys re-discovered the joy of flyfishing and worked hard to keep up with Dad. Of course all fish were released almost immediately.

Please enjoy these photographs.
